Former Real Madrid left back Roberto Carlos has labelled Cristiano Ronaldo as being better than his compatriot Lionel Messi. The competition for being crowned as the best player in the world has been a two horse race in the last five years.

Ronaldo and Messi have been sharing the awards with each other since 2009. They look like holding this prestigious award at least for a few more years.

Speaking to a sports website about who he would place a bet 365 free bet on for the Ballon D'Or, Carlos emphatically backed Cristiano.

Amongst the duo, Ronaldo has been having a better end to 2015. The Portuguese forward has already scored numerous goals in the 2015-16 season whereas Messi has been spending a rare time on the sidelines following a recent injury.

Despite the absence of Messi, Carlos is clear with his opinion that Ronaldo is a much better player than Argentine due to his variety. Due to his physical limitations, Messi is known for being an excellent dribbler.

Apart from having these qualities, Ronaldo can also score headed goals and can also lead the line on his own. Carlos also feels that Ronaldo is much more decisive with his impact at Madrid. This is despite the presence of big names like Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale. The arrival of the latter has definitely not impacted on Ronaldo’s figures and it is a testament to his quality.

"Messi is phenomental but in my opinion, Cristiano is a special player because he does everything for Madrid. It is not that Madrid do not have others – [Toni] Kroos, Marcelo - but I think Cristiano is more decisive in Real Madrid than Messi in Barcelona. Messi plays with Neymar, [Luis] Suarez, [Andres] Iniesta, [Sergio] Busquets, while Cristiano starts to fight, assist and score from the front. He is a special player," said Carlos. Ronaldo is close to being the top scorer in the la Liga this season with seven goals.
