Real Madrid: No More Ronny Dreams

Finally - the news that all Manchester United fans have been waiting for - Real Madrid have distanced themselves from Cristiano Ronaldo, which makes a nice change to their constant 'we-want-you' pleas!

Cristiano spent all summer hoping for a protracted move to Real, which never materialised. Perhaps Scolari was right when he said that sometimes the train 'only comes once', with Real Madrid supremo Ramon Calderon insisting that Cristiano is out of their thoughts for good.

"It is forgotten, not only for January but forever," said Calderón. "We would only talk about it if Manchester decide they want to sell him. But the matter is over. We talked about it last season. Manchester decided not to sell the player and we don't want to do anything against a club like Manchester.

"Madrid is not doing anything to disturb a 'friend club' like Manchester. We are two very big clubs. We want to be good friends forever. We are in the same market. I have a lot of respect for Manchester. I have a good relationship with [Manchester United chief executive] David Gill and I want it to be like that for a long time."

Good news - but don't bet against a Real Madrid bid, and similarly, don't expect the next Real Madrid Chairman to have given up all hope of signing Cristiano - the elections are at the end of this season!
