Cristiano Ronaldo Happy to Reach Milestone of 400 Goals for Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that he is extremely happy to have become the first player in Champions League history to score over 100 goals.

Back-to-back hat tricks in the latter stages of the competition has helped Ronaldo achieved this record ahead of Lionel Messi, who only needs six goals in order to achieve this feat. The race has been going on between Messi and Ronaldo over the last few years, but the recent run has helped the Portuguese superstar gain a stranglehold on this contest. After his hat-trick helped Real Madrid secure a 3-0 lead in the first leg of the semi-final with Atletico Madrid, Ronaldo claimed that he is only grateful to be scoring the number of goals.

The Portuguese also expressed his surprise at the sheer volume of goals that he has been scoring in recent weeks, while they credited good fortune as also being a major factor. Ronaldo was also recently honoured by club president Florentino Perez for scoring 400 goals in all competitions for the Spanish outfit.

There have been disputes in the official records which are stuck at 399, but it should not be a major issue for Ronaldo considering that he is once again on a brilliant scoring campaign. Despite being 32 years of age, the former Manchester United striker has been playing a key role for the club.

"Obviously there's a bit of luck as well. I've prepared myself and things have turned out well, not just for me, but for the team, too. That's why I say that, with dedication and hard work, as always, things come naturally. I'm very lucky, and I am from this planet! It's a really big amount of goals, something I didn't expect but it's a reflection of the whole team, of my work as well as that of all the people who work at the club, the fans that always support us and give us this extra motivation," said Ronaldo.
