Real struggle without Ronaldo

Real Madrid failed to find that piece of magic that is needed to break teams down, with Sporting Gijon holding them to a goalless draw. Ronaldo's inspiration was missed badly.

The first half at El Molinon ended in a scoreless draw that reflected the intensity and rhythm put for by both Real Madrid and Sporting Gijon. The Whites took control of every aspect of the match in the second but were unable to find the back of the net.

Despite the draw, Real sit atop the league table and may remain there depending on what takes place around La Liga on Sunday.
