CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: RONALDO RESCUED UNITED AGAIN

Cristiano Ronaldo was the man to the rescue once again for Manchester United after they secured a late win over Italian Serie A side Atalanta in the Champions League Group F clash played at the Theatre of Dreams on Wednesday night.

Manchester United had to do it the hard way to take the three points on offer from the game as they had to come from a two-goal deficit at the break to score three goals in the second half and win the game.

Manchester United went into the Atalanta game at home on the back of a two-match winless run. Their last win had been in the Champions League matchup with Europa League holders Villarreal and it was Cristiano Ronaldo who completed a 2-1 comeback victory at home over the Spanish team in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Since beating Villarreal, Manchester United played out a 1-1 drawwith Everton at home in the league and also lost 4-2 on the road against Leicester City in the same competition. The Leicester City result made it three games without a win in the Premier League and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players needed a big result against Atalanta to get their confidence going once again. They had a very poor start against Atalantawho took advantage of some poor defensive work in the United team in the first half.
Croatian international Mario Pasalic and Turkish defender MerihDemiral established a 2-0 lead for Atalanta before things fell apart for the Italians in the second half thanks in part to the injury to Juventus loaneeDemiral. The Turkish international joined Atalanta on loan from fellow Italian team Juventus at the start of this season.
Marcus Rashford made his first start of the season for the Red Devils in the Champions League match with Atalanta and he started the fightback before two goals in five minutes within the last fifteen minutes of the game secured the points for Manchester United. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner via a header nine minutes from time to take his team to the top of Group F in place of former leaders Atalanta.
